The Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE) has announced the launch of an ambitious program that seeks to promote the generation of energy from biodegradable organic waste in the agricultural and agri-food sector. In the next 30 months, the IDAE will carry out a series of feasibility studies for biogas installations free of charge.

This program’s main objective is to promote sustainability and energy efficiency in the sector, encouraging companies to use their organic waste as a source of thermal and/or electrical energy. The possibility of supplying energy to nearby consumers will also be considered, thus contributing to the decentralization of energy production. 
 
The feasibility studies will be specific for each company and will consist of up to four phases: preliminary study, waste characterization in the laboratory, basic study and advanced study. These phases will be carried out only in cases that demonstrate technical, economic and administrative viability.

The budget assigned by the IDAE for this program is 1.4 million euros, which will allow a large number of studies to be carried out throughout the country. Companies in the agricultural and agri-food sector that are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity can submit their applications starting Tuesday, September 26, 2023.
